Public Indecency

An act of public indecency is a crime that is typically committed “for the thrill” of it. However, law enforcement takes it very seriously. If an individual is found to have committed public indecency, he or she can be charged with a misdemeanor or felony offense, and be ordered to spend time behind bars.

What is Considered Public Indecency in Columbus?

Ohio Revised Code 2907.09 list three ways in which an individual can commit an act of public indecency. These include:

  • Exposing private parts or sexual organs
  • Participating in sexual conduct or masturbation
  • Engaging in activity that appears to be sexual in nature

Committing any of the actions mentioned above can result in public indecency charges. However, in order to be convicted of this offense, the prosecution must prove that the alleged offender’s actions were reckless, and were seen or would likely be seen by others.
