A $1,500 Scholarship for Students Pursuing a Career as a Criminal Justice Attorney
Joslyn Law Firm is excited to offer the Future Criminal Justice Attorney Scholarship, an annual $1,500 scholarship for Ohio residents who are pursuing or planning to pursue a degree, certificate, or educational program related to criminal justice. The scholarship is open to Ohio high school seniors and first-year college, university, community college, or other qualifying post-secondary students. Eligible students may attend or plan to attend an accredited institution anywhere in the United States.
At Joslyn Law Firm, we believe the criminal justice system is ultimately about people. Throughout our work in criminal defense, we see firsthand how a single mistake, poor decision, accusation, or difficult moment can have consequences that extend far beyond the courtroom. We also believe that one moment should not automatically define the entirety of a person’s life.
The next generation of criminal justice professionals will have an important role in shaping a system that balances accountability with fairness, compassion, due process, and the belief that people can learn, change, and move forward. The Joslyn Law Firm wants to encourage students who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in this field and plan to become a criminal defense attorney.
Scholarship Essay Requirements
Applicants for the Future Criminal Justice Attorney Scholarship must submit an essay of 700 to 1,000 words addressing the following topic:
The criminal justice system often encounters people during one of the most difficult moments of their lives. Why is it important to see the person beyond the mistake, accusation, or poor decision that brought them into the system? How has this perspective influenced your decision to pursue a career in criminal justice, and how do you hope to make an impact in your future career?
We encourage applicants to think beyond punishment and enforcement and consider the broader purpose of the criminal justice system. Essays may explore themes such as accountability, second chances, rehabilitation, fairness, constitutional rights, public safety, compassion, or the applicant’s own experiences and motivations for entering the field.
The winning submission will be selected based on how effectively the applicant communicates their reasons for pursuing a criminal justice career, their understanding of the responsibilities that come with working in this field, and the impact they hope to have on individuals and their community.

Looking Beyond One Moment
A career in criminal justice comes with tremendous responsibility. The decisions made by attorneys, law enforcement officers, judges, corrections professionals, advocates, and others working within the system can affect someone’s freedom, family, education, career, and future.
Joslyn Law Firm believes effective criminal justice professionals should be capable of recognizing both accountability and humanity. A person’s worst decision does not necessarily tell their entire story, and an accusation alone does not determine guilt. Due process, fairness, rehabilitation, and the opportunity to move forward all play important roles in a justice system that affects real people and real families.
Through the Future Criminal Justice Attorney Scholarship, The Joslyn Law Firm hopes to support an Ohio student who understands that responsibility and wants to build a career that makes the criminal justice system stronger, fairer, and more humane. Apply Today!
