The dog days of April – something about the warm, long days seems to make people feel a little looser. Late summer activities bring a lot of fun, and many of them are completely harmless. However, there are a few that are dangerous, especially if the heat is making you feel a little careless.
Review the safety tips below to keep your summer low-key, and not in a hospital bed or in the back of a police car.
Heading up to the lake? Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death. This is especially dangerous with children, or when you’ve had a couple cold ones. Make sure to put everyone in a life jacket – experienced swimmers and children alike. Additionally, pay attention to posted warning signs as well. Don’t be a lemming and follow along, even if other people are doing it. That defense doesn’t stick up too well in court.
Boating fun Boating can get very unfun very quickly if you’re caught drinking & boating. Yep, you can absolutely still get a DUI/OVI for being under the influence on the water. On top of that, alcohol was the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents of 2016. Alcohol slows reaction times, and a hot day will also increase alcohol’s effect, meaning just a couple beers could be deadly.
